Sustainability

Our approach

Sustainability in production

As part of the VCCP Partnership, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and always adhere to the Partnership’s sustainability policy.

We are proud to hold and proactively work in line with the requirements of the International Environmental Management Systems Standard ISO 14001:2015.

The EMS ensures that a sustainable way of working is integrated seamlessly into everything we do, and everyone within the Partnership is aware of their responsibilities in complying with the requirements of the EMS.

In addition to our commitment to the EMS, the VCCP Partnership is working to gain B-Corp accreditation by Q2 2022.

SUSTAINABLE SHOOTS

We want to ensure that everything we create is made sustainably, and when shooting, we take a proactive approach when mitigating our impact on the environment. To this end, when planning a production we follow the below guidance:

PRE-PRODUCTION

We continually assess every project from the Creative Development stage to ensure that we look for every opportunity to make an idea come to life in the most sustainable way.
During this period of development we will always ask ourselves if a shoot is required or whether this is an opportunity for a virtual production. If a shoot is needed, given the biggest carbon impact in production comes from travel and accommodation, we will then be considering location – shooting as close to home as possible and limiting travel.

WE WORK WITH GREENSHOOT

Since 2019, we have partnered with Greenshoot on every production. Greenshoot are our chosen partner because the advice they provide is tailored to each individual shoot, this therefore makes the implementation of what we do more impactful,
A ‘Green steward’, is appointed through the Mayor’s Equal Access Network.
Distribution of call sheets, MOs, etc, is done electronically.
No polystyrene or plastic water bottles (water dispensers provided) are allowed.
Food sets and wardrobe are donated to local charities, schools, theatre groups and homeless centres at the end of every production.
We reduce Co2 emissions by using Compostable generators when beneficial. We also follow a strict ‘no idling’ and car share vehicle policy.

WE ALSO WORK WITH AD GREEN

We are also an active supporter of AdGreen, and can utilise their tools, resources and training in order to accelerate change within our industry.

WE TRAVEL WITH CARE

If a shoot is required to deliver the creative idea, we will always consider the following:
Location of the shoot – avoiding air travel wherever possible and shooting in a location that is accessible via train or other means of transport. If air travel is required we will follow the VCCP Travel policy and take direct flights when this in an option, travel economy and use airlines that offer the best eco-friendly practices.

Number of attendees on shoot

We limit the number of attendees per shoot, ensuring only essential team members are travelling as needed.

WE ASK THE SAME OF OUR OUR FRIENDS AND PARTNERS

We regularly review the practices of all the production partners we work with as their policies on sustainability are a key factor in determining whether we engage with them. We actively encourage partners who aren’t currently doing anything in this space, to make positive changes.
We measure this by asking partners to regularly complete a questionnaire.
